D.C. Mayor Fenty's statehood about-face E-mail
Karen Szulgit wrote the following letter to the editor of The Washington Times about a recent article on D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty's lack of funding for statehood in his proposed 2011 budget despite his strong support for D.C. statehood in his inaugural address in 2007.

Ward 7 Democratic Committee Endorses Statehood E-mail

Statehood activist Samuel Jordan writes about the Ward 7 Democratic Committee's May 22, 2010 meeting which featured a panel on statehood, chaired by Ward 7 Council Member Yvette Alexander.  Charles Cassell, President of the 1982 D.C. Statehood Constitutional Convention and a longtime statehood activist, Johnny Barnes, Executive Director of the ACLU of the National Capital and a former chief aide to Delegate Walter Fauntroy, and Samuel Jordan, former chair of the D.C. Statehood Party, discussed the history of and need for D.C. statehood and how to make it happen.  At the conclusion of the discussion, the Ward 7 Democratic Committee passed a resolution endorsing statehood and action by the D.C. Council to request our Delegate to introduce a statehood bill in Congress.
